Question answer

How does the type of larch board affect its performance and appearance?

There are four classes (varieties) of larch:

  1. Extra
  2. Grade A
  3. Grade В
  4. Grade С

The attitude towards a particular type of lumber is influenced by the presence of wood defects:

  • Knots. They can be healthy (no rot) or rotten. Such devices indicate an unusual surface and make processing difficult. In dry raw materials, such products may fall out, although the appearance of the product does not cause negative results. Their presence is not allowed in selected Extra-class wood. A board of color A is characterized by the presence of 1-2 ingrown defects, more than 2 - class B. For larch grade C, only the number of fallen knots matters..
  • Cracks are breaks in the fibers of the wood that appear during the drying process. Their occurrence is caused by deviations from standards and violation of larch drying regimes.
  • Resin pockets. This name is given to the cavities that appear between the annual layers and are filled with resin.
  • Sineva. The bright blue or green color of the sapwood indicates the presence of fungus. An important point is the depth of the lesion. With significant penetration, defective pieces are completely removed.
  • Core. The central part of the trunk, which has looser tissue. It refers to wood defects that increase the amount of waste.
  • Processing defects. These include mechanical damage that occurs as a result of poor quality finishing of the material..

Defects on the front surface are not allowed in Extra grade boards. None of the four larch varieties, except C, can contain mechanical damage.

Extra lumber is considered to be the standard of quality. It is used in the manufacture of the most critical structural elements. For flooring or wall cladding, Grade A larch is recommended. For the production of parts that do not bear heavy loads, Grade B boards may be useful. Low grade wood is used to make containers and other household items useful.

How to install eurolining?

It is advisable to install eurolining in a heated room or in the warm season. It is prohibited to install eurolining in rooms heated by heat guns. This can lead to a sharp and uneven change in the moisture content of the eurolining, and as a result - to its warping.

One or two days before installation, the eurolining must be freed from its packaging so that the wood reaches a state of equilibrium moisture content for the given room. If it is not possible to postpone installation for a day, the eurolining can be installed immediately, but with a small (1-3 mm) gap between the boards.

It is recommended to attach eurolining to a sheathing made of bars 20-30 mm thick, which in turn are attached to the wall surface. The bars are located perpendicular to the eurolining boards at a distance of 50-80 mm from each other. The lathing facilitates the process of installing eurolining, levels the surface of the walls and provides a ventilation gap between the wall surface and the back side of the eurolining.

Eurolining is attached to the sheathing in one of two ways:

  • using special nails for eurolining, which are driven into the lower flange of the side groove at an angle of about 45°;
  • using clamps - galvanized steel brackets.

After the eurolining is installed, it must be treated with any of the compounds that provide protection from rot and pests.

How to choose high-quality eurolining?

Eurolining is a product made from various types of wood used for finishing premises. Among other finishing materials, eurolining made of coniferous wood is considered the highest quality, due to the highest quality indicators in operation. When purchasing a large batch of eurolining, it is quite difficult to track the quality of each element or unit. High-quality eurolining should not have knots or damage. The side grooves and tongues must be free of visible irregularities and fit together perfectly. Please note that the board from which the eurolining is made should not be twisted or curved in width.
The higher the grade of the product, the fewer visible defects and resins on the surface it has. Euro lining made of larch, which is recognized as universal in its properties, is recognized as the highest quality. When making a purchase, it is important to check the product for moisture. Humidity not exceeding 10% is considered normal.
